How often do you let your mind dream? Like the “what ifs…” and just have fun with it?! In a recent coaching conversation, we were exploring dreams, hopes, and excitement about goals ahead. And then very quickly, I started to hear fear bubble up … but there isn’t enough time. What if it doesn’t work? What will other people think if I do this and fail? It’s more comfortable to stay where I am than to step out … am I sure I want to aim for that?
Have you ever heard the cliché phrase, “What if I fall? Oh, but my darling, what if you fly?” It is totally a cliché … and it’s also true. What if … you fly? What if … you actually achieve more of what you’re called to do? What if … the scarcity and fear-based voices silenced? What if … the internal monologue was actually life-giving, truthful, and full of self-love and gratitude?
It seems to me that the voices of the world prefer we stay put. The world tells us ‘normal’ is best. Stay comfortable. Stay safe. Don’t do the scary thing. Don’t step out of that comfort zone. The lies of the world swirl around as our ‘norm.’ I do like my comfort — it’s safe. And safe is good. And good is good enough. I’ve been there. And it’s not life-giving. It feels stuck. It feels a little hopeless. It feels mediocre. It feels like something is missing.
In this conversation, we acknowledged the ‘scaries.’ They are real! And, I simply asked, “Tell me more about the life you dream about. Tell me why it’s worth it.” What are your hopes and dreams worth to you? Do they achieve for your family something you never would have imagined? Do they change generational patterns? Do they allow you to use your strengths in new ways?
This is abundance, friends! When those worldly lies creep in, feel free to acknowledge them and then lovingly tell them greater things are ahead for you. The fullness of who you’ve been called to be awaits! And it only takes one small step at a time for us to achieve those goals — You’ve got this!
