Love is Power

I've always been a dog person! I grew up with labs ... and also a two, wolf/husky/malamute mixes. My parents were given a wolf/malamute mix in the craziest way years and years ago. Long story short, a dryer delivery guy rehomed his beautiful dog with my family! She had been cooped up in an apartment and the owner wanted her to have a really fantastic home with a lot of outside space … and this is how we inherited Bella. And Bella was a fearful dog. She was extraordinarily afraid of men and didn’t know love. At first, it was extremely hard to teach, train, talk, or do anything with Bella. She was scared. But slowly, carefully, she began to respond to love. 

It took time and a lot of slow, steady, and loving perseverance, but the power of loving Bella – simply talking to her, being present around her on her terms, and paying attention to her cues changed everything. Bella became my mom’s best running partner. She was the most loyal dog. She loved talking (howling) to tell you her thoughts. I never doubted that Bella would stand between me and anything that was scary. And she was one of the most loving dogs I’ve met. She was powerful … and it took a lot of love for her to know her doggie (wolf?) power. 

Isn’t this is true of life? The amount of love we give and the amount of love we receive changes us … and it changes others. Love is not a finite thing – it’s infinite. And when we unconditionally give it out and receive it, it absolutely changes us. Are there any lies that tell you perfect, infinite love isn’t for you? Or you don’t have the capacity to give it out? Or there isn’t enough of it to go around? That’s scarcity thinking – and it robs of us love, joy, hope, peace – all the good things. (Check out the Scarcity Mindset blog if you're curious!)
